Luxury-minded tourists searching for the next big thing in the Maldives need look no further than the newly opened Dusit Thani Maldives resort, launched this year as the last word in comfort and opulence.

The latest luxurious addition to the Dusit International chain of hotels and resorts, the Dusit Thani resort showcases everything that people love about the Maldives. Set amidst ancient coral reef and a turquoise lagoon, it is almost completely encircled by a pearly-white sandy beach.

Secluded yet accessible, the resort can be reached in just over half an hour by seaplane from the Maldives capital Male and by speedboat in an amazing 10 minutes from Baa Atoll Airport.

With a heritage stretching back more than 50 years, Dusit International is a seriously big player in the hotel business. The constant need to innovate and move forward is the hallmark of the brand and one of its guiding principles.

Such developmental innovation is part of the very DNA of the Dusti Thani Maldives

Located on Mudhdhoo Island in the Baa Atoll region of the Maldives, the resort boasts 100 villas decked out in an architectural style that is best described as a Maldivian and Thai hybrid. Each residence, many of which have private pools, is decked out with the most luxurious of amenities such as Wi-Fi access, iPod docking stations, Internet, plasma screen TV with surround sound system, and the de riguer wine cooler.

Guests can choose from Beach and Lagoon Villas which incorporate a private deck area and a plunge pool; Ocean Villas which provide a deck area, private swimming pool and open air salas; and the premium Ocean Pavilions and Beach Residences which have their own large-sized swimming pools and bespoke dining area.

Fine cuisine is of course standard at the Dusti Thani Maldives. Whatever the culinary fancy, the range of food available is second to none and quite simply caters for every taste. All-day dining is the speciality of the Market Restaurant whilst the Benjarong – the resort’s signature restaurant – is considered to be the mecca for Thai cooking. Should a juicy steak be your preferred eating option then the Sea Grill is your best restaurant destination.

Complementing these exquisite eating establishments are two equally distinguished drinking establishments – the Sand Bar and the Sala Bar. Each is situated by a pool and features a breath taking ocean view and service above reproach. The Sala Bar in particular is suitable for those wishing to do no more than sit quietly at the end of a fun-filled day and gaze at the stars.

Yet even the most dedicated food and drink connoisseurs may wish to partake in a little mildly strenuous activity during their holiday in the Maldives, so it is beneficial then that a number of dive sites are very handily placed nearby specifically for this purpose.

Perhaps the most well-known of these is the Hanifaru Huraa, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Biosphere Reserve which is in fact a feeding ground for manta rays and whale sharks. Humans are in no danger however, but to keep minds at rest should imaginations begin to run wild, guides resident at the Dusit Thani are there to offer guests their support as they explore this magnificent undersea world of turtles, eagle rays, reef fish and coral.

Since its opening earlier this year, the excellence demonstrated by the Dusit Thani Maldives has placed it firmly on track to becoming one of the most admired and respected resorts in the world. Measuring up to the distinguished heritage of the Dusit International Group is no easy thing, but at the Dusit Thani the pursuit of perfection is much more than just a hollow pledge.
