Your Ultimate Italy Trip Planner
Are you taking a 10 day trip to Italy or only visiting for a few days? How much you’ll be able to see depends greatly upon the duration of your stay. For this trip planner, we’re sharing tips that should be useful to all travelers, whether they’re going to Rome or Venice
- Best Time to Visit
Not sure when you should go to Italy? When you go should be based on what you’re hoping to do while you’re there.
If you’re looking to visit beautiful Italian beaches, visit in the summer. But if you’re more interested in sight-seeing and architecture tours, we recommend you visit during the off-season between April and May or September or October.
- Choose Your Cities
What’s great about Italy is that every major city is different. Rome is a sprawling city full of can’t-miss marvels like the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the Vatican. Venice is rich with history as well and has beautiful squares and St. Mark’s Basilica, a famous church absolutely worth checking out.
If you only have a short trip planned, we recommend you try to spend quality time in fewer cities. But if you’re looking to see as much as possible, you can easily navigate between major cities by train.
With a Rail Pass, you can pretty much hop on any major train in Italy and travel wherever.
- Budget Accordingly
How much you spend in Italy will differ depending on where you’re staying. Certain cities like Rome and Florence will be more expensive than those in the countryside. You should plan on spending roughly €100-300 a night for accommodations depending on how many people you’re traveling with and the level of luxury you’re looking for.
Looking to spend less? Check out Airbnbs or stay in a hostel!
Best Places to Visit in Italy
Not sure which cities you should even explore while you’re in Italy? Here are some of the best cities in Italy to visit:
Did you know Rome is the third most visited city in all of Europe? And with good reason, it’s home to incredible sites like the Colosseum and the Vatican and boasts incredible culture and amazing food.
It’s a large city though, so don’t feel like you need to see everything! Just try to book tours of anything you’d like to visit and try to get up early to see as much as possible.
- Amalfi Coast
Are you looking for a little relaxation? If so, visit the Amalfi Coast, a breathtaking stretch of coastline full of idyllic beaches. It’s a great spot to soak up the sun and take in incredible sites. And what’s better? It’s right next to the next city on this list: Florence!
Florence is the ideal city to visit for all art lovers. That’s because it boasts some of the most iconic art from the Italian Renaissance, including pieces from Michelangelo and Botticelli. If you plan to visit, try to book tours in advance as they tend to sell out quickly.
Not sold on any of these cities? Well, there are plenty more out there. Milan, Venice, and Naples are all beautiful cities worth checking out!
