Travelling Solo? Consider These Things

Travelling Solo? Consider These Things

Travelling clears heads, fills up the vacuum in our souls, relaxes us, feeds our minds with the desired peace, the list can go on and on. We can easily fall short of words when we narrate our travel experiences to others.

But, is there something in particular that can be gained only via travelling solo? Well, it seems so, considering the remarkable rise in the number of solo travellers.

Gone are the days when solo travel was an anomaly. However, there are still some people out there who believe solo travelling is not their cup of tea. We agree, it can be daunting at first, but it is incredibly fun and liberating at the same time. Provided that you pay due attention to your safety and put your foot forward with caution.

So, if you’re considering to travel solo, we have prepared a list of things you must keep in mind before you leave your home and hit the road. Read on to find out!

  1. Choose your destination wisely

Until today, you must have come across numerous articles saying “top places to travel solo” and others alike. Well, the internet is flooded with them! But, for a good reason.

Travelling alone for the first time in your life, you wouldn’t want to get trapped in a language barrier or feel unsafe because of the surroundings, right? So, it’s best to skim through those articles and shortlist the countries or places you are most fascinated by. Finally, after various considerations and prioritizing your desires, pick the most suitable one.

  1. Pack appropriately

You will, of course, want to consider the weather forecast when packing your stuff. Or better still, you could choose an all weather pack like the 511 backpack and know that your belongings will stay dry and clean.

Apart from the weather, also do your homework as to which dress code is followed in a particular country, especially if you’re a woman. For instance, most Middle East countries insist on women dressing modestly. So, ensure that you dress and pack accordingly such that your outfit is not offensive to the culture out there.

  1. Book your accommodation well in advance

While this point may sound pretty obvious, yet there are certain solo travellers who ignore it. This not only ensures safe travelling but also a stress-free one as you don’t have to bother much since all the important things are already taken care of.

With due respect to all your thrill and adventure, we highly recommend that you pre-book a place so that you don’t travel with the stress of finding accommodation in a place you’re not familiar with.

  1. Prepare a communication plan

While you are out there enjoying your freedom and cherishing your solitude, make sure to stay connected with your family. Talk to them at least once or twice each day and keep them informed about your whereabouts. We appreciate solo travelling but don’t want you to compromise with your safety.

  1. Keep copies of important documents handy

You obviously wouldn’t want to be tagged as the ‘irresponsible solo traveller’, do you? So, it’s wise to make different copies of them and carry them along. You never know when you need to show some id!

In fact, scan all your documents well before and email the set to an acquaintance so that you can still have access to them in the case of a mishap like being robbed or something alike.

  1. Expand your network

Travelling solo is like the two different sides of a coin. On one hand, you get to spend time with yourself, enjoy your solitude while at the same time, you also have a chance to expand your network. For the latter, you can connect with friends and check if some of them or even their acquaintances are headed in the same direction as you or if they are someplace close. You never know where potential contacts come from and you might even stand a chance to build some relationships.

  1. Always have a Plan B

An alternative plan or Plan B always comes handy when you feel things are not moving as they are supposed to. And, it’s nothing to worry about. It can happen to anyone but this is the time when you gather your confidence and not give up hope. So, up your social media game and let people know that you’re having a great time out there while at the same time help them keep a tab on where you’re headed.

Final Word

The best part of travelling solo is that you get to be your own master, don’t have to make any compromises, and do things as per your whims and fantasies. So, get ready to brace this surreal feeling while everyone is just sitting around in their sweatpants envying your solo spirit. Have a safe and amazing experience. Happy travelling!
