Getting The Best Out Of Your Travel Photography

Getting The Best Out Of Your Travel Photography

When it comes to taking photographs there are a few things that really help improve the overall quality of the photos, and there are ways in which to enjoy them. Unfortunately, many people take photos when travelling these days and forget all about them once they are uploaded to social media for friends and family to see. Sadly many people don’t have their own photos on their walls and it’s a real shame. We often say that we are going to get some printed ‘at some point’ but it ends up at the bottom of our priority list.

So here are a few ways in which we can get the best out of our travel photography, and make sure we aren’t leaving them in the cloud never to be seen again!

The Technical Bit

Photography has never been easier or more accessible than it is today, gone are the days when we needed to buy very expensive camera equipment and rolls of film to be able to take photos, that we wouldn’t see for weeks on end until it was developed. Whilst there were certainly benefits to this method it also had its limitations. So we now have mobile devices that are capable of taking amazing photos without much effort at all. But there are a few things that you can do with to help your camera or camera phone take those stunning photos you see other people sharing.

To start with making sure that you have enough light, with travel photography, we are much more likely to have enough light anyway, but check where you are standing in relation to the sun or other light source and you will have taken a good step in the right direction. It’s also important to know your equipment if you don’t know how to use the tools you have then, in this case, it is always good to read the user manual! There are also thousands of Youtube videos and photographers sharing their hints and tips online, you just need to find one that works for you. Once you have a great subject, light in the right place, and a decent camera to work with you will find yourself enjoying your results.

The Wow Factor

When looking at the photos you have taken after your travels you will notice certain things about the photos that you didn’t even when taking them, it’s fascinating to look back and see all the different things that you may have forgotten all about as well. You can find people in landscapes that you didn’t know were there and bugs in flowers that you just didn’t see before. But whatever you do make sure that if a scene is mind-blowing to the eye then as long as you compose the photo correctly you will have a photo that has the wow factor.

Many photographers become hooked on photography, as a hobby at least, through seeing some incredible shots on their cameras after their latest trip. There are bucket lists full of beauty spots around the world, and there are trips purely for photographers because of this. Of course, you must remember to take it all in while you are actually there, but taking these shots and enjoying them over time is important.

Finding Great Print Options

Being able to enjoy your photos after you take them is essential. Far too often we forget about our travels and the daily ‘grind’ takes over, but seeing reminders of these special times can be a great way to remind yourself that you will be able to travel again and that you had a special time when you did in the past, sometimes it can feel as though your next adventure is so far away and it’s important to have something to look forward to. You can even create these personalised 2021 calendars for yourself or even as Christmas gifts! This is a great excuse for going back through them and enjoying them all over again, being able to look at your favourite photos on a calendar every single day will also be a positive reminder, and you can even choose more than one photo for each month. This can lead to even more prints around your home, which certainly isn’t a bad thing.

Having an extra-large print of your absolute favourite view from your last adventure can really help you enjoy your home as well. There are so many different options from Canvas to Acrylic, and there’s no reason not to match your decor to your favourite photo’s colour palette either. Making sure that you are enjoying your photos is an important thing, and it can really make a house feel like a home. Don’t forget to include some with yourself and your family in as well, especially if you have children, studies have shown that children get a boost to their self-esteem when they see photos of themselves displayed at home.

Photography is something that everyone should be able to enjoy, and if you are a keen traveller then it’s even more important that you document your amazing adventures. You can take a photography course to improve your efforts, upgrade your tools once you become a little more comfortable with it, and you can quite easily find yourself editing a batch of photos to get ready for print.

Why not research the best places to take photos before you take off on your next trip and see what other photographers have done with the cities and skylines that you may come across. Even if you don’t find something you can do yourself there is always the enjoyment of just looking through other people’s work. This can be inspiring and uplifting in itself. So remembering to take your time, learn a little about the tools you are using and finding the best photography spots before you travel anywhere can really help your confidence and in turn your results. You’ll have amazing photos to look back on in years to come.
