Fun Things To Do In Austin, Texas

Located  in the heart of Texas, Austin is a bustling, vibrant, and diverse city packed with adventures and attractions. “Keep Austin Weird” is  the city’s unofficial slogan and gives you a taste of just how fun, unique, and alternative the culture here is. Whether you want to explore the great outdoors, enjoy some quiet time, or learn about Austin’s colorful history, there’s plenty for you to do.

Outdoor adventures

McKinney Falls State Park, a popular state park in Austin, is a must-visit for outdoor lovers. Spanning a whopping 641 acres, the park has many beautiful hiking trails, as well as opportunities for mountain biking, cycling, and swimming in Onion Creek, which runs through the park. There’s even the chance to do birdwatching and general wildlife viewing. The Homestead Trail, in particular, takes you past the fascinating historical ruins of Thomas McKinney’s stone house and gristmill. Alternately, the Rock Shelter Trail attracts less crowds and takes you past beautiful, natural limestone cliffs.

Relax and rejuvenate

Everybody deserves a little pampering and relaxation; according to  Austin day spa, one of the best ways to relax is to get a massage, a facial, manicures and pedicures, and other body treatments. Afterwards, go for drinks at Scholz Garten,  Austin’s oldest bar and restaurant. Founded in 1866 by a German immigrant after WW2, Scholz Garten offers cheap lager-style beer and classic German and BBQ food. Take a seat on a patio table outdoors and enjoy the friendly, relaxing ambience.

Historic attractions

Austin has plenty to offer history buffs. The Neill-Cochran House Museum showcases two of the oldest buildings in the city complete with period and original furnishings. Here you can get a glimpse of early life in Austin, as well as view the rotating art galleries which offer insight into both Texas and US history. Also visit the East Sixth Street National Register Historic District located in downtown Austin. Here you’ll find the Susanna Dickinson Museum — home to a survivor of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo.
