Best 5K Race: Credit Union Cherry Blossom 5K in Washington, D.C.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom races are dubbed “The Runner’s Rite of Spring” in Washington, D.C. The Saturday 5K starts at Freedom Plaza and follows the Presidential Inauguration route down Pennsylvania Avenue, crossing the National Mall by the Capitol Building and returning the same way.

Expert Katie McElveen comments, “A gorgeous setting made even prettier by (if you’re lucky) clouds of blooming cherry blossoms.”

Best Fun Run: San Diego Santa Run in San Diego, California

The San Diego Santa Run is a unique holiday celebration featuring a range of runs for all levels of participants. Best Half-Marathon: OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis, Indiana

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, also known as the Indy Mini, is a half-marathon that takes place annually in Indianapolis, Indiana. The course takes runners through downtown Indianapolis, past historic landmarks and famous sites like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

One of the largest half-marathons in the United States with around 35,000 runners each year, it is part of the larger 500 Festival of events leading up to the iconic Indianapolis 500 car race.

Best Marathon: Pikes Peak Marathon in Manitou Springs, Colorado

The Pikes Peak Marathon is considered one of the most challenging marathons in the world, with runners ascending and descending the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. In addition to the grade, the altitude can prove difficult for many runners. Despite the challenges, runners are rewarded with breathtaking views (literally) of the Rocky Mountains and the surrounding wilderness.

Best Road Cycling Event: El Tour De Tucson in Tucson, Arizona

El Tour De Tucson is a ride that’s been a part of the Tucson community for decades. It has route options for cyclists of all skill levels, and all routes start and end at or near the Tucson Convention Center. Options include The Century (102 miles), The Metric Century (62 miles), The Half Metric Century (32 miles) and the FUN rides (1-mile, 5-mile or 10-mile options).

Best Triathlon: Door County Triathlon in Door County, Wisconsin

The Door County Triathlon features a course that winds through the scenic countryside of Door County, Wisconsin. The swim takes place in crystal-clear Horseshoe Bay, the bike ride goes along the shoreline and through the bluff area, and the run goes north through Egg Harbor before looping around.
